The Pickled SIsters offers a relaxed, warm and welcoming dining experience. If there is one word to sum up our philosophy at The Pickled Sisters Cafe it is generosity. This extends from the welcome you receive as you walk through the door, to the service and most importantly the food. We want all our guests to feel part of the Pickled Sisters extended family.
At The Pickled Sisters Cafe we celebrate the abundance of produce available to us here in North East Victoria. Our emphasis is on using the best quality ingredients, sourced locally wherever possible, and treated with respect. It is about sharing, celebrating, and indulging.
We are open for breakfast and lunch - and for cake and coffee of course. Dinners are by arrangement only for private groups and functions, and on holiday weekends.
The Pickled Sisters Team
The Pickled Sisters Cafe team is headed by owners, husband and wife Stewart Gilchrist and Marion Hansford. Stewart and Marion moved to Rutherglen with their two young sons to take over The Pickled Sisters Cafe in 2004. Classically trained and with over 30 years experience, Scottich born Stewart developed his interest in using what is local and seasonal whilst working in regional Scotland. He cooks what he enjoys to eat, with the emphasis on quality ingredients, clean flavours and the re-interpreting of classics. A self confessed ‘sweet tooth’, Stewart’s desserts are not to be missed.
Marion is in charge of the front of house team, with almost 20 years experience in hospitality. Marion and Stewart first met on the Isle of Arran, working at a renowned local restaurant, and it was here that she fostered her love of local produce, picking wild herbs on the roadside and collecting seafood fresh from the trawlers. It was on Arran that Stewart and Marion first dreamt of owning their own restaurant in the country, a dream that came to fruition at The Pickled Sisters Cafe, appropriately in Rutherglen with its own rich Scottish heritage.
