Cofield Wines & The Pickled Sisters Cafe were delighted to be named Rutherglen's Cellar Door with Best Food in the latest edition of Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine. The April/May Edition featured the nationwide winners in the Australia's Best Cellar Door Awards.

Pickled Sisters named Australia's Best Cafe Restaurant

The Pickled Sisters Cafe has won the best cafe/restaurant category in the National Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence 2015.

The national award followed on from the cafe's earlier win in the Victoria/Tasmania regional awards. More than 220 restaurants, cafes and catering businesses were judged across 41 categories, with the winners announced at the Awards for Excellence gala dinner held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Monday 26 October.

The awards recognise hospitality operators who provide exceptional service, demonstrate culinary excellence, and great value for money. The Awards for Excellence criteria is determined by consumers who rank what is important to them in the dining experience.

The  Pickled Sisters Cafe is thrilled to win the Victorian Regional/Tasmanian Cafe Restaurant category in the Victoria & Tasmania Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence 2015!

The winners were announced at the Awards for Excellence ceremony held at Peninsula, Docklands on Monday 20th July.

The Awards for Excellence is a nationally recognised, independently judged awards program that celebrates exceptional service and culinary talent across Australia. 

The Awards for Excellence, now in its 17th year, is judged by an independent team of trained judges who anonymously visit the venues to determine the winners. The scores are based on the entire dining experience from food to the customer service experienced when the judges anonymously dine.

The Pickled Sisters Cafe will now compete with other region finalists at the National Savour AustraliaTM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence to be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Monday 26th October 2015.

Tastes of Rutherglen 2015 - Sample the Best!

A great article on some of the mouth watering offerings coming up during Tastes of Rutherglen over the March long weekend. 
On Saturday we are serving slow braised pork cheek with fennel, apple & red onion salad, citrus, honey & Milawa Mustard dressing with Cofield Wines 2006 Reserve Release Pinot Noir Chardonnay. And on Sunday enjoy our Beef Bourguignon tart with potato, chive & pancetta salad with a glass of Cofield 2013 Sparkling Shiraz.

Pickled Sisters in the 2014 Age Good Food Guide

The Pickled Sisters Cafe has been reviewed and listed in the latest edition of The Age Good Food Guide.

"Enjoying brunch, a long lunch, coffee and cake or cheese and a glass of wine in the sun-filled dining room or on the comfortable deck is a local pastime. Quality ingredients and warm hospitality combine in dishes such as vineyard platters, twice-cooked Milawa goat's cheese souffle, and muscat-glazed duck. Browsing the well-stocked takeaway larder for house-made preserves and some of the region's best produce before departure is a must."

The Pickled Sisters Cafe is also featured in the Country Coffee Trail and has been included in the Good Food Guide every year since 2005.

Rutherglen Slow Roast Sundays

A Sunday roast in the midst of a cold Rutherglen winter, complete with a delicious dessert and wine to match.

Join us at The Pickled Sisters Cafe every Sunday in June (excluding the Queen's Birthday Long weekend) for a delicious Sunday roast. Enjoy succulent confit Milawa free range chicken with roast potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach matched to a glass of Pfeiffer Pinot Noir, followed by a divine dessert of ginger bread and butter pudding with spiced roast pears and a glass of Pfeiffer Late Harvest Muscadelle.

The list of finalists has just been announced for this year's Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence Victoria. We are very excited that The Pickled Sisters Cafe is a finalist in the Best Cafe Restaurant (Regional) Category for the fourth year in a row!

SUNDAY LUNCH. The Pickled Sisters Cafe was featured in The Age travel section as an ideal spot for Sunday Lunch.

A vineyard platter full of local treats seems a perfect choice as we dine on the large deck under an umbrella at the Pickled Sisters Cafe at Wahgunyah, in the heart of the Rutherglen wine region.
Our platter features homemade chicken terrine and chutney; Rutherglen Muscat and chicken liver pate, which has a velvety texture; Butt’s smoked trout; spiced eggplant; Gooramadda olives; and Milawa cheese ($23.50) which is a tasty introduction to the fresh produce of the area and goes so well with red bubbles from the Cofield winery where the cafe is located.
We have already been given the thumbs up by a local who insists the twice Baked Milawa Goat’s Cheese Souffle on tomato sugo with dressed rocket ($19.50) is a stand out, so we put it to the test and agree.
Stewart Gilchrist and Marion Hansford took over the cafe in 2004. Good food was in their blood, Marion worked at Stephanie Alexander's acclaimed Richmond Hill Cafe and Larder for many years and Stewart from Scotland had clocked up more than 30 years working at different restaurants.
They met on the Isle of Arran where Hansford would often pick wild herbs on the roadside and collect seafood fresh from the trawlers. Their love of fresh local produce is reflected in the menu.
We selected Brimin Lodge Murray Cod Cappelletti with a cucumber and ginger veloute ($22.50) and a glass of 2010 Cofield sauvignon blanc ($7)  and ras el hanout crusted rump of Riverina Lamb with onion puree, dahl lentil cakes and  minted yoghurt dressing ($30) with a glass of  2005 Cofield cabernet sauvignon ($8).
Gilchrist is renowned for his scrumptious desserts. His passionfruit cream cannelloni with yoghurt ice cream and berry compote  and miille feuille of poached pear with pastry cream and chocolate sauce ($11.50 each) are a perfect finale to a memorable lunch.
